BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana scored a touchdown early in the second quarter of Saturday night's game against No. 9 Ohio State - the first touchdown the Buckeyes' defense had allowed since the closing moments against Southern Californiaweeks ago.

The Hoosiers drove 80 yards in just eight plays to close within 10-7 of the Buckeyes.

Before the Hoosiers scored that touchdown about two minutes into the second quarter, Ohio State had allowed just one touchdown over a stretch of more than 12 quarters of play.

The Buckeyes had two consecutive shutouts going into last night's game (Toledo 38-0 and Illinois 30-0), marking the first time since the 1996 season Ohio State had held the opposition scoreless in back-to-back games. The last time the Buckeyes had two shutouts in a season was 1998, when they again shutout Toledo and Illinois.

Ohio State came into the Indiana game allowing just 11.2 points per game.

Indiana had scored more than 30 points in its two previous outings, a 38-21 win at Akron, and a 36-33 loss at Michigan.

ROAD STREAK: The Buckeyes have won 16 straight road games in the Big Ten - the longest such streak in Ohio State history. The Big Ten record is 17 straight road wins, set by Michigan from 1988-92.

DISTANCE MAN: Ohio State senior kicker Aaron Pettrey came into the game having hit all five of his kicks from outside 40 yards, including twice from 50 yards or more. Pettrey added a 46-yarder in the first half. He also missed from 35 and 29 yards. Entering last night's game, Pettrey had kicked six field goals of 50 yards or longer in his career, including a 54-yard field goal that established his career mark against Youngstown State in 2008.

FRESHMEN FIRSTS: The Buckeyes have played nine true freshmen in their first four games of the season. Defensive back C.J. Barnett, fullback Zach Boren, receiver Duron Carter, tight end Reid Fragel, fullback Adam Homan, linebacker Storm Klein, defensive tackle John Simon, running back Jordan Hall and linebacker Jonathan Newsome are all part of the 2009 recruiting class and have seem action for Ohio State. Both Carter and Boren had touchdown receptions in the first half of last night's game against Indiana.

MAC PAST: Indiana coach Bill Lynch spent a good deal of his career in the Mid-American Conference, leading Ball State for eight seasons. Lynch had two winning seasons with the Cardinals, his first two years (1995-96). His best season in the MAC was a first-place finish in 1996 when the Cardinals went 7-1 in the conference and 8-4 overall.

COLEMAN OUT: Ohio State played last night without senior safety and captain Kurt Coleman, who was suspended by the Big Ten for a helmet-to-helmet hit he made on Illinois backup quarterback Eddie McGee last Saturday. Coleman received a personal foul penalty on the play, but was not ejected. He was removed from the game at the time of the penalty by OSU coaches.
